Journalist Eli Rosenberg may have left the Midwest for now, but he’s still getting a taste of some Midwestern weather! Here he is last week reporting about a tornado that hit a Boston suburb.

UPDATE — Last year Jewish Life magazine featured Eli Rosenberg, a reporter on KMBC-TV 9. In mid-July he left his hometown television station and moved to Boston, where he’s reporting for New England Cable News, an NBC-owned regional cable network based there. Starting Jan. 1st, he’ll be joining the new NBC Boston as a reporter.

“I loved my time in Kansas City, working for the station I grew up watching was special, but Boston made perfect sense for me personally and professionally,” he said. “My parents remain in Kansas City, if you see them please say hi, so I know I’ll be back soon!”

Good luck in Beantown Eli!

The legacy of Hyman Brand continued when Jeremiah Wajcman, the oldest son of Shira Wajcman and the late Michael Wajcman, started kindergarten this fall at the Hyman Brand Hebrew Academy. He became the second great-great grandson of Hyman Brand to attend the school. He also follows in the footsteps of his mother Shira Wajcman (Maslan) and Aunt Sarah Maslan who attended HBHA from kindergarten through 12th grade.

DAY OF DISCOVERY AND KOSHER BBQ — The Jewish community was home to two great Jewish events the past two weeks. The 5th Annual Kansas City Kosher BBQ Championship was on Sunday, Aug. 21, and everyone simply raved about the food. This past Sunday I spent some time at the annual Day of Discovery. Approximately 300 people attended at least part of the day that included breakfast, lunch, three study sessions and dessert. I attended a fascinating discussion on the 2016 election and learned valuable information I will take to the polls with me in November. It took countless volunteer hours, and tireless efforts by the professionals as well, to make these events the successes they were. Thank you to all involved for these wonderful special events!

‘FOR THE LOVE OF SPOCK’ — The documentary feature film “For The Love Of Spock,” opens on Sept. 9 in Kansas City at the Tivoli Cinemas. “For The Love Of Spock” tells the life of Star Trek’s Mr. Spock as well as that of Leonard Nimoy, the Jewish actor who played Spock for almost 50 years. It is told through the eyes of Leonard’s son, Adam Nimoy, with special appearances by William Shatner, George Takei, Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Jim Parsons, J.J. Abrams and many more!

The obituary of Celia Cohen, published in the June 23, 2016, issue, incorrectly mentioned the name of her father’s business. It was Nebraska Auto Wrecking, not Friedman Auto Parts.
