“Fed,” a pop-up dinner event designed to engage the next generation of members and leaders of the local Jewish community, will take place Oct. 17 in midtown Kansas City.
The event, a collaboration with Dinner Lab — described as a modern supper club offering pop-up dinners in unexpected spaces — is also a fundraiser benefiting the Jewish Federation of Greater Kansas City’s annual campaign. {mprestriction ids="1,3"}Intertwining food, community and philanthropy, the goals of the innovative event include having hundreds of people enjoy a casual night out with delicious food and drink, building a stronger community and raising funds to sustain and enhance Jewish life here in Kansas City and around the world.
“More than just a fundraiser, more than a social event, Fed is a celebration of the vitality and growth of our community,” says Amy Ravis Furey, outreach and engagement coordinator for Jewish Federation. “It’s about empowering the next generation to become leaders and providing the opportunity to make an investment in sustaining our future.”
Alex Schifman, formerly executive chef at 801 Fish in Leawood and a contestant on the Food Network’s “Cutthroat Kitchen” hosted by Alton Brown, is preparing the five-course menu for the event, based around Jewish Federation’s five areas of service: safety net services, youth and family services, senior adult services, Jewish identity and education, and Israel and overseas.
The event will be held at the iconic modernist building at 1900 Shawnee Mission Parkway, currently being renovated by Karbank Real Estate to LEED green building standards, with floor-to-ceiling windows and a landscaped courtyard.
This event is designed for Jewish community members in their late 20s to their early 50s, and will be kosher under the supervision of the Vaad HaKashruth. The cost is $50 per person, and attendees are asked to make a minimum commitment of $100 to the Jewish Federation annual campaign. Jewish Federation’s annual campaign raises between $4.75 and $5 million from approximately 2,000 donors. The organization provides program funding to 14 local agency partners and 14 partners in Israel or overseas, as well as allocations to nine national partner organizations.
