Goodman JFS of Broward County (GJFS) has selected Jacob Schreiber as the organization’s new CEO. Schreiber’s appointment is effective May 1. He comes to South Florida after serving as president and CEO of the Jewish Community Center of Greater Kansas City.

Schreiber is a veteran nonprofit executive, Jewish educator and journalist who has developed a reputation as a specialist in transforming Jewish organizations and impacting lives through values-based processes grounded in honesty, boldness and innovation.

During his five years at The J in Kansas City, Schreiber helped transform a struggling organization with major deficits into a thriving JCC enjoying six-figure surpluses and 25 percent growth in membership and major program areas. He was the organization’s primary spokesperson and led the community through very difficult times in the wake of the April 2014 attack at the Jewish Community Campus, which claimed the lives of two people (and another that same day at Village Shalom).
Prior to his work in Kansas City, Schreiber served as executive director of Hillels of Georgia in Atlanta. He has held key positions as an analyst, community organizer and/or program developer with the Anti-Defamation League, American Israel Public Affairs Committee and Joint Distribution Committee. He also served as a political consultant and speechwriter for Israel Finance Minister Avraham Shochat.
Schreiber was raised in New York City and has lived in Washington, D.C., Southern California and Israel. He is an award-winning journalist who served as the editor of the Atlanta Jewish Times and as a staff writer for The Jerusalem Post, for which he reported from Jordan, Syria and Israel. He holds a master’s degree in Arab-Israeli Affairs from The Hebrew University. Schreiber is married to Dr. Edna Levy, a Jewish studies and social studies teacher at Hyman Brand Hebrew Academy.
