Marian was born in Philadelphia on April 29, 1922, to Jacob and Lena Wilson. Following graduation from Atlantic City High School in 1939, she worked for the U.S. Navy at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard as a purchasing agent for 17 years. She married the late Cantor Henry Pordes in 1955 and lived in Philadelphia until relocating to Overland Park in 2005 to be with family.

For many years she was active at Beth David Reform Congregation. After years as a stay-at-home mom and homemaker she returned to work at a local gift shop but then later found her calling as an in-home childcare giver. Over the course of 20 years she cared for over 40 children in their homes. She enjoyed classical music and was an avid follower and supporter of the Metropolitan Opera weekly performances.

She is preceded in death by her parents, and sibling Donna Cohen. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Curtis and Barbara, and grandchildren Jacob and Adam.
