Leonid Lvovich Bashmakov passed away Aug. 3, 2016, in Olathe, Kansas. He was born in Bershad, Ukraine, in 1923 to Sara and Leob. Leonid was a decorated war veteran of World War II and fought in the Soviet army. After the war, he returned to Bershad and married his longtime neighbor, Anna, in September 1946. Leonid and Anna immigrated to the United States in 1989 with the rest of the family. He always attributed his long life to having moved to America.
Leonid, who lived in Overland Park, Kansas, enjoyed listening to Italian opera, especially The Three Tenors, watching movies and giving long toasts at family dinner parties. He always thought of his family and others before himself, even up to his last days.
He is preceded in death by his parents and three sisters: Fanya, Rosa and Manya.
He is survived by his wife: Anna; three children: Ilya Bashmakov, Mikhail Bashmakov and Maryana Noykhovich; four grandchildren: Alex Bashmakov, Katya Noykhovich, Milana Noykhovich and Michelle Noykhovich; and two great-grandchildren: Eli and Jake.
