Freda (born Elfriede) Neuberger, 93, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away on April 18, 2016. Freda was born in Germany and immigrated to the U.S. when she was a young girl. She came directly to Kansas City where she had an uncle and grandparents. Freda traveled by herself; without being able to speak English. She left for the U.S. via France on a ship, was met in New York by an escort arranged through a social service agency to be put on a train bound for Kansas City. Freda’s mother, father, brother and sister later also immigrated to Kansas City.
Freda went to public school in Kansas City where she learned English. She met her husband, Alfred, also an immigrant from Germany, in Kansas City and they were married for 69 years.
Freda is survived by her loving and cherished husband, Alfred, their three children: Alan Neuberger (Diane), Nancy Neuberger and Linda Neuberger (Elizabeth); and her two beautiful and beloved grandchildren, Emily and Jacob Neuberger. Freda is also survived by her sister, Joan Stein (Leo), sisters-in-law, Regina Dollman and Ruth Heller and nieces and nephew.
Freda devoted her life to her family, she raised her children and managed the family’s home life. She was known for her excellent culinary skills both cooking and baking. Freda enjoyed travel, was involved in the Jewish community and never met a stranger. Freda will be profoundly missed by her family and so many who loved her.
A private funeral service was held at Rose Hill Cemetery.
