Dorothy Ashner Parness

Dorothy Ashner Parness, 86, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away Thursday, April 21, 2016, at Menorah Medical Center. Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 26, at The Louis Memorial Chapel; burial followed at Sheffield Cemetery. The family suggests contributions to Congregation Ohev Sholom or the National Kidney Foundation.

 

Dorothy was born Aug. 20, 1929, the daughter of Charlie and Bessie (Penner) Ashner. She was one of eight children who grew up on the Greenwood Dairy Farm in Mission, Kansas.

Dorothy graduated from Shawnee Mission High School and later worked for Mobil Oil.

She married Louis Parness on Valentine’s Day in 1954 and they were married for 52 years before his death in 2006.

After her daughters were grown, she worked for Venture Stores for 23 years.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother: Lou Ashner; sisters: Eva Ashner and Anna Rice; a sister-in-law: Gina Ashner and a brother-in-law: Bob Feldman.

She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law: Barbara Parness, Annette Parness, and Michele Parness Simari and husband John; brothers and sisters-in-law: Leo and Dottye Ashner; Barney and Marlene Ashner; Herb Ashner; sister: Frances Feldman; sisters-in-law: Sonie Ashner, Leona Cohn; grandchildren: Scott Simari and his fiancée Deanna Howard; Matthew and Mackenzie Simari; Michael Parness and Benjamin Parness.
