Sophia Waldmann

Sophia Waldmann, 94, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away Jan. 30, 2016.

 

Sophia was born in Olkusz, Poland, and was one of six children. She was a Holocaust survivor.

She immigrated with her husband, Sam, and daughter, Heidy, to America in 1949 under the auspices of her aunt and uncle Mrs. and Mr. Ziegler. She gave birth to another daughter, Sherry, in 1950. She first joined BIAV and subsequently Kehilath Israel Synagogue, where she has been a member for 61 years. Her main interest was in business and she became a property owner and manager. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a devout Jew and contributed to many religious charities. 

She was preceded in death by her husband and sister Rela. She helped Rela and her family immigrate to the United States from Israel. The rest of her immediate family was murdered in the Holocaust.

Sophia is survived by her daughters, son in-law Norman, grandson Michael and his wife Miriam, great-grandson Joshua, niece and nephew Lea and Abe, and many close cousins.

Funeral services were held on Monday, Feb. 1, 2016, in the chapel at Kehilath Israel Blue Ridge Cemetery with burial following.
