Zelda Shalinsky Tasman

Zelda Shalinsky Tasman, 92, died Sunday, Dec. 27, 2015, at her home in Louisville, Kentucky. She was the fourth child out of eight children of the late Freda and Herman Shalinsky. The family lived in Kansas City, Kansas, attending Ohev Sholom Synagogue on Sandusky. Zelda was one of the few Jewish students to graduate from Argentine High School in Kansas City, Kansas. Zelda took pride in starting to work at an early age along with her siblings to help support the family. After she graduated high school, the family moved to Kansas City, Missouri, and were active members of Kehilath Israel Synagogue on 43rd and Prospect.

Her family was her highest priority in life. She was a loving and supportive daughter, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She was a life member of Hadassah, NCJW and Congregation Keneseth Israel. She was a 30-year volunteer for the Louisville Jewish Hospital.

Zelda met her husband, Goodie, while being a hostess at a USO dance at the roof garden of the Jewish Community Center located on Linwood Blvd. Rabbi Solomon of Kehilath Israel married them in Kansas City before she moved to Louisville, spending the rest of her life there.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Goodman Tasman; and her brothers, Joseph, Lester, Milton, Marvin and Leo; and her sisters, Eleanor Rutlader and Harriet Waldman. She is survived by her sons and their wives, Dr. Alan and Cathy Tasman, and Norman and Alice Tasman, all of Louisville, Kentucky; her grandchildren Natalie Tasman of Seattle, Washington, David Tasman of New York, Rabbi Sarah Tasman (Kyle Hathaway) of Washington, D.C., and Aaron (Dr. Jennifer) Tasman and Jason (Jenna) Tasman, all of Louisville, Kentucky  She leaves three Shalinsky sisters-in-law in greater Kansas City, Anne, Helen and Arlene. She had 20 Shalinsky nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews.

The funeral was held Tuesday, Dec 29,  2015 at Herman Meyer and Son. Burial followed in Keneseth Israel Cemetery of Louisville, Kentucky.
