Ina Hodes Winick

Loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, Dr. Ina Esther Hodes Winick, a longtime resident of Hastings-on-Hudson, New York, died on Sept. 13, 2015, after a year-long illness.

 

Born in 1936 in St. Joseph, Missouri, she grew up in Kansas City, graduated from Southwest High School, and was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Colorado, where she met her New Jersey-born husband, to whom she was married for 57 years.  

Ina Winick was the wife of Eugene Winick of Hastings-on-Hudson, mother of Janet Winick Rubinstein of Mareil-Marly, France; Leigh Ann Winick of Hastings-on-Hudson, and Elizabeth Winick Rubinstein of Scarsdale, New York; grandmother to David, Daniel, and Dalia Rubinstein, Gabriel and Eli Pinkus, and Ava Rubinstein. She was the sister of Phil Hodes and his wife Barbara and Dr. Herb Hodes and his wife Andrea, all of Leawood, Kansas, and sister-in-law to Ann Winick Sendar of Hempstead, New York. {mprestriction ids="1,3"}She is survived by all of these family members. Her parents, Michael Hodes and Dorothy Kalis Hodes, predeceased her.

Dr. Winick earned both her master’s degree and her Doctor of Philosophy Educational Psychology degree from the City University of New York. She worked for several school systems. She was a past director of the Community Nursery School in Dobbs Ferry, New York, and the school psychologist in the Henrick Hudson school district in Westchester, New York. Retiring from education in 2001, she then worked with her husband at his literary agency in New York City, McIntosh & Otis, Inc.

A resident of Hastings-on-Hudson since 1968, Ina Winick had a zest for life and a keen interest in people of all ages and backgrounds. She was beloved for her kind, gentle, generous and caring nature, and her passion for her community, family and Temple Beth Shalom in Hastings. 

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any gifts or donations be made to AIPAC or Gilda’s Club Westchester.

Services were scheduled to be held on Wednesday, Sept. 16, at Edwards-Dowdle Funeral Home in Dobbs Ferry, New York.{/mprestriction}
