Mary Shabason

Mary Shabason, 88 of Kansas City, Missouri, died in her home on July 13, 2015. She was born on Sept. 27, 1926, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Jake and Naomi Shabason. Mary was a lifelong participant in tzedakah. The family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society, the American Diabetes Association or to any worthy charity of your personal choice.

 

Ms. Shabason attended public schools in Kansas City, first at Woodlawn Elementary School, and then graduating from Paseo High School in 1943. {mprestriction ids="1,3"}She attended the Junior College of Kansas City, achieving the Associate of Arts degree in 1947 and later attended Metropolitan Community College.

Mary worked at the John Taylor Department store in downtown Kansas City, which subsequently became Macy’s. She enjoyed a long and successful professional career at Macy’s. After Macy’s closed its business office in Kansas City, she worked for several years at United Missouri Bank. Both careers utilized her meticulous skills in financial management and business affairs.

Ms. Shabason was fiercely independent and self-reliant, maintaining her home, yard and beautiful garden throughout her life. Her generous and warm nature led her to become the caregiver for her parents and her older sister Goldie. She was always a beloved aunt to her nieces and nephews.

Mary was predeceased by her parents, sisters Sarah Becker, Goldie Koden and Evelyn Yodler, and nephews Daniel Koden and Brian Yodler. She is survived by her older sister Anne Shalinsky, her brother-in-law Abe Yodler, her nieces and nephews, Audrey Shalinsky, Barry Shalinsky (and spouse Robin Rosenberg), Devorah Shalinsky, Denise Goldenberg (and spouse Mark), Jenise Kranzberg, and Laurie Goodwin (and spouse Steve). She also left 16 great nieces and nephews.
