Helen Roth Bernstein

Helen Roth Bernstein of Overland Park, KS, was born on July 30, 1931, in Brooklyn, New York, and died on June 23, 2015. A private funeral service is planned. {mprestriction ids="1,3"}A graduate of Brooklyn College, Helene had multiple careers and lived on both coasts before moving to Kansas. After college she was a schoolteacher in New York City, then a homemaker on Long Island, where she studied interior design and worked for Bloomingdale’s. After a move to Los Angeles and jobs at Bullocks Wilshire and I. Magnin department stores, she became a paralegal and office manager for an L.A. law firm. During 47 years of marriage to husband Richard, and after his death in 2001, Helene was a devoted and loving grandparent to Ben and Stephanie Denzer of New York, New York, and Evanston, Illinois, respectively, and a caring mother and mother-in-law to daughter Sue Bernstein and son-in-law Paul Denzer of Overland Park, and to son Stuart Bernstein and son-in-law Kevin Lay of New York, New York, all of whom, with her sister, Sheila Aronson, also of New York, New York, survive her. Helene was overjoyed to have met and enjoyed the company of her great-grandson, Mason, born just last year.

She spent her last two years being expertly cared for and watched over by the very fine people at Cypress Springs Overland Park Alzheimer’s and Memory Support Residence. Helene had lived in Overland Park for 20-plus years, but it never took her very long to remind you she was from New York.{/mprestriction}
