Marshall J. Bernstein

Marshall J. Bernstein, 82, of Overland Park, passed away suddenly Saturday, May 30, 2015, with family by his side. Graveside services were held June 2 at Rose Hill Cemetery. The family suggests contributions to the Social Action Fund at The Temple, Congregation B’nai Jehudah.

 

Mr. Bernstein was born Jan. 4, 1933, to the late Max and Libby Bernstein of Kansas City, Missouri. {mprestriction ids="1,3"}He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in business from the University of Missouri in 1955 where he was a member of Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity. He married Lorry Reinstein who passed away in May 1993. He is survived by his wife Lois, whom he married in 1999.

After graduating college, Mr. Bernstein owned and operated Max Bernstein and Associates until 1981. At that time he became a manufacturer’s rep for Halloween, stationery and party supplies until retiring in 2014. Mr. Bernstein had been an active member of The Temple, Congregation B’nai Jehudah for 53 years and was Brotherhood president at the time of his death. He served on the Social Action Committee, volunteered at the Brotherhood Breakfast Club and Mitzvah Meals in Independence Boulevard and Olathe. He had worked with the Brotherhood to construct the congregation’s sukkah each year. 

Mr. Bernstein’s community services include serving as past president of the Amigo Gift Mart and president of the Heatherwood Homes Association. He was a 32nd degree Shriner of the Ararat Shrine. He was an avid reader, golfer and wood worker.  

He is also survived by daughters, Sheryl Lasky (Scott), Marci Slotin (David) who reside in Atlanta; step-sons: Michael Rose (Jennifer) and Bradley Rose, who reside in Kansas City. Grandchildren include Shannon Lasky, Lane and Avery Slotin and Jesse and Casey Rose.
