Helen Sara Hipsh

Helen Sara Hipsh, 95 of Leawood, Kansas, passed away May 13, 2015. Funeral services were held May 15 at Louis Memorial Chapel; burial followed at Rose Hill Cemetery. The family suggests contributions to The Temple, Congregation B’nai Jehudah.

 

She was born October 21, 1919, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Louis Kupperman (Leib) and Betty (Schindelman) Kupperman (Bronia). She married Sam Hipsh on June 29, 1947. 

Helen graduated from Central High School and Kansas City Junior College. {mprestriction ids="1,3"}She worked as a bookkeeper for Gateway Sporting Goods, RCA Victor, and then did the bookkeeping for her husband’s company, Admiral Flag and Specialty Company for over 50 years. 

Her volunteer work included The Marcella Rodin Club and The Sisterhood at The Temple, Congregation B’nai Jehudah, where she applied her bookkeeping abilities to every treasurer, dues and fundraising task available. She was awarded the Shoshana Award by Sisterhood for her outstanding charitable service. 

She loved to read, follow baseball and play Pan and Mah Jongg and complete the newspaper crossword puzzle every day. She was an accomplished baker. 

Helen was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Sam Hipsh; her brothers, David and Alvin Kupperman.

She is survived by her two daughters, Louise Hipsh (Neil Breslow) of Leawood, Kansas, and Judith Glassman (Mitchell Glassman) of North Potomac, Maryland; three grandchildren, Dan Glassman (Lisa Haun Glassman), Ben Glassman and Beth Hipsh Breslow; and one-great grandson, Joshua Glassman.
