Sidney Cohen

Sidney Cohen, 91, St. Joseph, Mo., passed away peacefully Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2014, at Mosaic Life Center surrounded by his loving family. {mprestriction ids="1,3"}He was born in Brooklyn, N. Y., to Max and Anna (Shinder) Cohen. Sidney married Beverly Burnstein Feb. 17, 1946.

 

He owned and operated Sid’s Markets and Brock’s Market and also owned coin-operated laundry mats. He later worked at Sherman’s Restaurant Equipment for 20 years.

Sidney proudly served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and was a member and past president of B’nai Brith, B’nai Sholem Temple, Toastmasters and The Open Door Food Kitchen.  He was the spiritual leader of B’nai Sholem Temple for 30 years. 

He and his wife Beverly sang many concerts at Krug Park. He was a very humble man, whose deeds were quietly done in charity. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Ruth Rothlin, Jean Mazzer and Berniece Desatnick; and brother, Sol Cohen.

Survivors: wife, Beverly; children, Karen Bronston (Scott), and Sandy Rosenak (Steven); five grandchildren, Scott Rosenthal, Lainie Kirsch, Rachel Bronston, Shayna Rosenak, and Spencer Rosenak; four great-grandchildren; and numerous loving nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were held Jan. 2 at Shaare Sholem Cemetery.

The family suggest memorial contributions be made to Open Door Food Kitchen.
