Phillip A. Kusnetzky

Phillip A. Kusnetzky, 75, died on Dec. 9, 2014, at home, with his daughters by his side, after a courageous battle with cancer.

 

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 11, at The Louis Memorial Chapel, followed by burial at Kehilath Israel Blue Ridge Cemetery.

Phil was born on Oct. 7, 1939, in Kansas City, Mo. He received his undergraduate degree from Rice University in Houston, Texas, and his law degree from The University of Missouri in Columbia.

Phil was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Sylvia Kusnetzky, his in-laws Jack and Rene Tepper, sons Brian and David Kusnetzky, and his wife of 50 years, Cindy Kusnetzky.

He is survived by daughters Carol (Bruce) Jerwick and Lisa Kusnetzky, grandchildren Michael and Lindsay Jerwick, Ben, Carter and Madison Kusnetzky, sister and brother-in- law Harriet and Tim Shapiro, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Phil was a leader in the Jewish community including being a past president of the Jewish Community Center of Greater Kansas City, founding member and past president of Congregation Shir Chadash, and a member of the board of the Jewish Federation. He was a longtime member of Oakwood Country Club and Kehelith Israel Synagogue.

Phil loved spending time with his family and friends; he was devoted to the legal profession and remained a life-long fan of the Rice Owls.
