David Pener, 60, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2014.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Aug. 28, at Louis Memorial Chapel, followed by burial at Kehilath Israel Blue Ridge Cemetery. The family suggests a contribution to The Alzheimer’s Association or the Humane Society of Greater Kansas City.

One of five siblings, five bright points on a shining star, one point has now faded. David, born March 5, 1954, was a graduate of Shawnee Mission East High School and the University of Arizona. He returned home after graduation to follow in the footsteps of his father, Harold Pener, who was the founder of the family’s retail business. When his father passed away in 2004, David became the co-owner of Harold Pener Man of Fashion along with his brother, Barry Pener. David loved his work and was a mentor and friend to all of his colleagues.

David was a rare and wonderful person who was kind to all. He was a gentleman of great integrity and he was devoted to his friends and family.

David is survived by his beloved wife, Beth Pener. They lived, loved and enjoyed 11 wonderful years together. He is also survived by his children, Rose (Joseph) Moran and Brian Pener; stepdaughters, Annalisa (Nathan) Barelli and Alexis Barelli; his mother, Shirley Pener; sisters, Marsha Johnston, Carol (Gino) Tutera and Julie (Chad) Ullman; brother, Barry (Francine) Pener; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
