Peedee Brown (nee Roseroot), 74, of Overland Park, formerly of Fairway, died peacefully at her home on Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2014, surrounded by her loved ones.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Aug. 10, at Congregation Beth Torah, with burial at Rose Hill Cemetery. The family suggests donations be made to KU Endowment, P.O. Box 928, Lawrence, KS 66044 or online at www.kuendowment.org/givenow to support either the Peedee Brown Scholarship or Alzheimer’s Research.

Peedee was the daughter of the late Tippy and Don Roseroot of Chicago. She leaves behind her husband of 55 years, Phillip S. Brown, an attorney and retired vice president at Kansas City Southern Industries; and her children, David Brown, Melissa (Brown) Rooker and Michael Brown, also of Kansas City.

Born Nov. 16, 1939, Peedee grew up on the north side of Chicago and graduated from Nicholas Senn High School. She attended the University of Wisconsin, where she met Phil and they were soon married.

Though raising her three children was her primary focus, she also enjoyed working both in retail sales and as a local real estate agent. Peedee served her neighbors as an elected councilwoman for 13 years on the Fairway City Council. It was in the mid-1980s that Peedee committed herself to finish her college education. She enrolled at the University of Kansas and earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in English at age 48 in 1988. Peedee often shared that, “My diploma from KU, next to my family, is my most treasured possession.”

In addition to her husband and children, Peedee leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Lindsay Rooker, Alex Brown, Jack Rooker, Kate Brown, Megan Brown, Molly Brown and her favorite dog, Charlie.
