Shirley Gorrel passed away Wednesday, July 23, 2014, in the Atlanta area. She spent the last year and a half there to be with her daughter and granddaughters.

Shirley was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and moved to the Kansas City area when she was newly married.

She was primarily a homemaker but kept busy with many Jewish activities. For many years she was the chairperson for Parties for the Blind. Elderly people would be driven by volunteers to The Temple, Congregation B’nai Jehudah where they were given a hot meal and entertained for the afternoon. She was a member of B’nai Jehudah for more than 50 years where both of her children were confirmed.

Shirley was preceded in death by the following people: her husband Howard Gorrel who passed away in 2002; her father, The Honorable Judge Joseph H. Silbert, Chief Justice of the Appellate Court of the State of Ohio, and her mother Estene, both lifetime residents of Shaker Heights, Ohio; and her sister, Patricia Burk of Beachwood, Ohio.

She is survived by her son, Gary Gorrel of Boynton Beach, Fla.; daughter and son-in-law, Holly Faraldi and Al Faraldi of Peachtree City, Ga.; granddaughters, Camille and Liza Faraldi; and her sister and brother-in-law, Carole and Michael Dworkin of Columbus, Ohio.

A memorial service was given for her on Sunday, July 27, by Congregation B’nai Israel of Peachtree City.

A family graveside service was to take place at Mount Moriah in Kansas City, Mo., on Friday, Aug. 1.
