Mira Grunspan, 90, of Merriam, passed away Monday, July 28, 2014, at Trinity Nursing and Rehabilitation.

Graveside services were to be held Wednesday, July 30, at Rose Hill Cemetery. The family suggests contributions to The Temple, Congregation B’nai Jehudah or a charity of one’s choice.

Mira was born in Vilna, Poland, the daughter of Moses and Rachel (Brainos) Manejskin. She was a Holocaust survivor who met her future husband, Roman Grunspan, after World War II. They came directly to Kansas City in 1950 with their older son David who was born in 1947. Their second son Larry was born in Kansas City in 1955.

She and Roman started Ramona Toy, a manufacturer of Plush Toys for amusement parks and carnivals, in 1965. In 1969 they imported most of their inventory, and the business lasted 35 years, until their retirement in 1981.

Mira was a member of The Temple, Congregation B’nai Jehudah.

She was a warm, generous, hardworking person who loved her family and took great pleasure in her three grandchildren.

Mira loved attending services at The Temple, when her health allowed.

She had a wonderful personality, was an avid reader, enjoyed friendships with other survivors, and traveled the world, including Asia and Israel, where they also purchased some of their toys.

Mira was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband Roman in 1992.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Larry Grunspan and Kathy Wadman, Overland Park, and David and Hedy Grunspan, Leawood; grandchildren, Shira and Jonathan Hurst-Sneh and Alan Grunspan and Rona Grunspan; nephew, Willie Grunspan; and niece, Mirrella Lipowitz.
