Inge B. Silverman, 83, of Leawood, passed away Thursday, July 17, 2014, at Menorah Medical Center.

Funeral services were held Sunday, July 20, at The Louis Memorial Chapel, with burial at Mount Carmel Cemetery. The family suggests contributions to Congregation Beth Shalom or the American Diabetes Association.

Inge was born Aug. 16, 1930, in Billigheim, Germany, the daughter of Rudy and Gerta (Schwarz) Baruch. In 1936, at age 6, she came to the Kansas City area with her parents to join other family members.

She was a graduate of Paseo High School where she was a member of the Beta Alpha Beta “BABS,” a Jewish sorority. Her education continued at UMKC.

Inge met her husband Martin working in community service through Congregation Beth Shalom. They married in 1953 and enjoyed 44 years of marriage.

She worked as an administrator at Beth Shalom and  then  as  executive  assistant at JEC/CAJE, retiring in 2004 after 30 years of service.

Since her retirement, she volunteered in many capacities at Beth Shalom, where she was a former board member and member of its Sisterhood.

Inge loved to play bridge, was an avid reader of daily news, knitted and enjoyed the arts. 

She was a good cook and hosted many family meals. Inge lived for her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and the Jewish community.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband of 44 years, Martin “Buddy” Silverman, in 1998.

Inge is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Marcia Silverman, and her daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Craig Both, all of Overland Park; grandchildren, Rebecca Silverman, Jana Silverman and Brian and Andrea Both; great-grandsons, Ezra and Arlo Both; niece, Marsha Zimmerman; nephews, Brian Fleishman, Marc (Bonnie) Fleishman; and cousins, Ron (Susie) Goldsmith and Lynn Fairbanks.
