Dorothy Lillian Hoffman, 91, of Leawood, passed away on Sunday, July 6, 2014, at Village Shalom.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, July 9, at Temple Emanuel Cemetery, Lawrence, Mass. The family suggests contributions to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Gentiva Hospice or Village Shalom.

Dorothy was a sweet and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was born March 9, 1923, in Malden, Mass., the daughter of Solomon and Rose Israel. Dorothy was a member of Temple Emanuel in Lawrence, Mass. She was also a life member of Hadassah. Dorothy studied art at Boston University and worked as an illustrator. In addition to raising her family she helped in her husband’s veterinary clinic. Dorothy lived in Lawrence, Mass., and Lake Worth, Fla., until she moved to Leawood seven years ago to be closer to her daughter and family.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Martin Hoffman, in 1996, and a sister, Ethel Rubin, in 2004.

Mrs. Hoffman is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Gail and Allen Gutovitz, Mission Hills; son and daughter-in-law, Jeff Hoffman and Teresita Garcia, Miami; son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Judy Hoffman, Ithaca, N.Y.; grandchildren, Joshua Gutovitz, Scott and Caron Gutovitz, Deborah and Brian Pappas, Sara and Josh Berman, Gabriel and Cait Hoffman and Martina Hoffman; and great-grandchildren, Owen, Isaac and Stella Gutovitz, Charlie and Benjamin Pappas and Olive Berman.
