Miriam Swartz (center) was recently awarded the Levy Hillel Leadership Award by the Lehigh Valley Jewish Federation. She is shown here with Judith Cohen-Roberts, the Levys’ daughter, and Professor Ethan Berkove, professor of mathematics at Lafayette College and adviser to Lafayette Hillel.

Miriam Swartz of Mission Hills, a student at Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania, earned two honors during the spring 2016 semester.

Swartz, who is currently president of Lafayette College Hillel, was one of three students awarded the Levy Hillel Leadership Award by the Lehigh Valley Jewish Federation. The award is given to college students who exhibit leadership skills through their involvement in Hillel. The award, which was initiated more than two decades ago, was established by Mort and Myra Levy, of blessed memory, as a way to recognize young leaders.

She was also named to the 2016 spring semester Dean’s List at Lafayette College for outstanding academic achievement. To qualify for Dean’s List, a student must achieve at least a 3.60 semester grade point average on a scale of 4.0.

A member of the class of 2018, Swartz is double majoring in history and anthropology/sociology. In addition to her work with Hillel, she is a campus tour guide, the chapter/alumni correspondent for her sorority, Delta Delta Delta, and a member of Lafayette’s choir and Chamber Ensemble. A 2014 graduate of Pembroke Hill, Swartz is the daughter of Karen Glickstein and Don Swartz, and a member of The Temple, Congregation B’nai Jehudah.
