Congregation Beth Shalom Sisterhood announces the restart of Warm Up America, its popular program that was shut down during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The program will kick off on Sept. 6, 2023, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. in Goldsmith Hall in Congregation Beth Shalom.

The goal of Warm Up America is to provide handmade afghans to be donated to various social service organizations in the area to be given to an individual or families in need.  In the past 12 years, Carol Yarmo, past vice president of this program, stated that over 400 afghans have been distributed to the community.

This project is open not only to Sisterhood members, but also to anyone who has an interest. Yarn will be provided by Sisterhood. Personal yarn may be used as long as it is worsted medium weight and washable. Participants will need to supply their own needles: Size 8 (5 mm) for knitting and size “G” for crocheting. For those who need assistance with their stitches, there will be people to provide help.

Naomi Silverman and Susan Krigel are co-vice presidents. Questions can be directed to Silverman at or (913) 558-5184.

Sisterhood members look forward to meeting participants as they work toward a productive and creative year.
