New and prospective members of the National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) of Greater Kansas City are invited to learn more about the organization, its programming and advocacy at an introductory event, "Coffee (& tea!) and a Cause."

The casual event will take place on Aug. 13 from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the home of Esther Stein in Leawood, Kansas. The exact location will be provided to those who register. Grounded Coffee Company will make custom ordered beverages, and a light nosh will be served. NCJW asks that attendees bring sanitary napkins for its Period Project program. Donations will be distributed to six underserved middle and high schools in the Kansas City area.

Space is limited, and RSVPs are required by Aug. 6 to with the names of those coming.

NCJW is a grassroots organization of volunteers and advocates who aim to turn progressive ideals into action. Inspired by Jewish values, NCJW strives for social justice by working to improve the quality of life for women, children and families and safeguard individual rights and freedoms. 

NCJW’s history in the Kansas City area started in 1894. Kansas City’s NCJW was the second section created nationally and currently has more than 500 members. The Kansas City section leads a number of community service efforts such as a back-to-school store, Mother's Day jewelry store, Period Project, Suitcases to Start and scholarships to graduating seniors. It also advocates for issues such as reproductive health and rights, period equity and ending antisemitism.
