Many incoming university students from across the country are visiting the University of Kansas campus in Lawrence to prepare for entering college, and KU Chabad is greeting and welcoming the new students and the parents to the university and its Jewish life.

Incoming freshman Sarah Altemeier from Dallas, Texas, said, "As stressful as orientation can be for a freshman, walking in and getting a friendly wave and a welcoming smile from [KU Chabad director Rabbi Zalman Tiechtel] made me feel so welcomed, and I can't wait to be a proud ‘Jewhawk.’"

KU Chabad has ensured that for every day of new student orientation throughout the summer, either Rabbi Tiechtel or Rebbetzin Nechama Tiechtel are present to greet the incoming “Jewhawks,” with the intent of providing a friendly face to greet them and make them feel more at home.

"As a parent of an incoming freshman, it was very inspiring to have a warm Jewish welcome at summer orientation," said Dara Bernstein from Overland Park, Kansas, whose son Daniel will be a freshman this upcoming school year. "It was comforting to know that such a wonderful organization as Chabad on Campus is available to support the spiritual, social and educational needs of my child while away from home."

“Although it’s our 17th year attending new student orientation at KU, it is all so fresh and exciting,” said Rebbetzin Tiechtel, co-director of KU Chabad. “When I meet so many new incoming ‘Jewhawks’ who are excited to get involved, it reinforces our belief that Jewish life at KU is growing each year by leaps and bounds.”

KU Chabad invites any incoming freshmen to join its community. Those interested can reach out to Rabbi Zalman and Nechama Tiechtel at JewishKU.com, or (785) 832-8672.
