Applications will be accepted until June 15 for the Jewish Community Foundation’s (JCF) Katianne’s Sunshine Fund for the Benefit of Special Needs Programming.

This memorial fund was established by the family of Katianne Bordy Tannenwald to continue her legacy of brightening the world. The fund provides support to nonprofit organizations serving the local Jewish special needs community.

“Katianne lit up the room with her smile and enthusiasm,” her cousin Sandi Fried said. “Every time she saw you, she radiated love. That's why it's the Sunshine Fund.”

The fund made two grants last year to community organizations to help those with special needs. One was for a Shabbat dinner at Torah Learning Center for special needs individuals and their families. The other grant supported the purchase of standing desks at Hyman Brand Hebrew Academy.

Community organizations that make a positive impact on the special needs community are invited to apply for a grant from the fund. Grant applications can be found at jcfkc.org/sunshine. Beatrice Fine can be contacted for more information at (913) 327-4618 or
