The Hyman Brand Hebrew Academy (HBHA) Civic Service Award Celebration will now be a full brunch, with a mimosa, screwdriver and Bloody Mary bar.

The event will honor Alan Edelman and be held at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 22, at the Westin Crown Center.

HBHA has hosted this fundraiser for 48 years as a dinner, but the celebration’s chairs, along with the school, decided to change the fundraiser into a brunch. This decision was made in response to donor concerns regarding the possibility of a Kansas City Chiefs playoff game later that day. In addition, because this event is in January rather than the spring, it lessens weather concerns regarding nighttime driving downtown.

“HBHA is excited to host a beautiful brunch that will highlight [Edelman's] important and enduring contributions to the Kansas City Jewish community,” said HBHA Head of School Adam Tilove. “It will be the perfect opportunity to come together before enjoying what we hope will be a Chiefs playoff win that afternoon.”

Edelman has been involved in community service as a program developer, leader and active participant throughout the Greater Kansas City area throughout his adult life. His time with HBHA dates back 33 years.
