The White Theatre at The J is holding auditions for a female version of The Odd Couple on January 14.

The theater will be casting six women (all significant roles) approximately 30s to 50s who are strong comedians. Also being cast are two men to play brothers Jesus and Manolo, approximately late 20s to early 40s.

The White Theatre always encourages people of all ethnicities, abilities, and gender identities to audition. Specifically, this production features two men of Latin descent, and the theater is seeking to cast these roles appropriately.

Neil Simon's 1980s revision of his hugely successful 1960s smash, The Odd Couple, sees the lead characters transformed into Olive Madison and Florence Unger. Olive and her friends are enjoying their weekly Trivial Pursuit game night in Olive's apartment when Florence arrives, fresh from splitting with her husband. Fearful that emotional Florence might do something drastic if left alone for too long, Olive generously invites her to move in, and chaos ensues.

Simon's exploration of what happens when two very different personalities live together in close quarters continues to resonate through the decades, particularly during these Covid-times.

General auditions will be Friday, Jan. 14 from 5 to 10 p.m. at the White Theatre. Proof of COVID-19 vaccination required to audition. Please prepare a one-minute comedic monologue in the style of the show.
