According to a survey conducted last August by the Jewish Community Relations Bureau|AJC, Jewish students in Kansas City face antisemitism on a disturbingly regular basis in schools. Seventy-five percent of students reported experiencing or witnessing at least one form of antisemitism at school.

Antisemitism follows students home on social media platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and Snapchat. Many students encountered this in May, when virulently anti-Israel content, misinformation about the conflict, and blatant antisemitism spread rapidly across social media.

At 6:30 p.m. on August 17, JCRB|AJC will host a virtual program for parents, grandparents, and relatives of Jewish students to raise awareness about the antisemitism Jewish students face in school and on social media and to offer suggestions and resources for how to better prepare students to respond to antisemitism.

The program will be led by JCRB|AJC’s assistant director of education and programs, Sarah Markowitz. It will also feature Jewish high school students, who will share their personal experiences responding to antisemitism, and a Jewish parent, who will speak about how they approach conversations about antisemitism with their family.

Pre-registration is required for the program. Participants can register at: (www.us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZUpde-vqTgsEtGfbbHriMktbcQMAfP_0rIB). The registration link can also be found on www.jcrbajc.org.
