Joshua and Sheryl Stein announce the bar mitzvah of their son, Jonah Ethan Stein, on June 12, 2021, at Congregation Beth Shalom.

Jonah is the grandson of Stewart and Esther Stein, and of Marilyn Rosen of Dunnelon, Florida, and the late Marc Rosen. Jonah’s sibling is Leora.

Jonah attends Leawood Middle School. He is an avid athlete who enjoys soccer, track and baseball and is a big fan of the Royals and Chiefs. He plays trumpet in school and is active in Jewish student organizations. He loves exploring and traveling and spending his summers at his favorite place, Herzl Camp in Wisconsin.

Jonah wanted to make a difference when he saw the incredible food insecurity during the pandemic, so for his bar mitzvah project he created MASKerAIDs as a way to raise money for the Jewish Family Services food pantry. MASKerAIDs are beaded lanyards that attach to face masks allowing them to hang around your neck so they are readily accessible when not being used. He sold the MASKerAIDs with 100% of the proceeds going to JFS and has sold over 1,000 of them, raising $20,000 to help the hungry in our community. Jonah looks forward to continuing to serve the community through volunteerism and his B’nai Tzedek Fund at the Jewish Community Foundation.
