Robert Sydney Blonsky, 98, of Kansas City, Mo., passed away Tuesday, April 30, 2013.

Funeral services were held Thursday, May 2, at The Louis Memorial Chapel, with private family burial following. The family suggests contributions to Kehilath Israel Synagogue, 10501 Conser, Overland Park, KS 66212.

Mr. Blonsky was born in Kansas City, Mo., the son of Leo and Malvina (Neuman) Blonsky, and was a lifelong area resident.

He was part of the founding officers of the Wornall Bank, rising to the rank of executive vice-president. Mr. Blonsky continued in this capacity after the Wornall Bank became a part of the UMB Bank group, until his retirement. He continued as a banking consultant for five years after he retired. Mr. Blonsky was in banking for more than 50 years.

Mr. Blonsky was a lifelong member of Kehilath Israel Synagogue.

He loved gardening with his wife Dorothy and also caring for his yard and property. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Mr. Blonsky was preceded in death by his parents, and a son, Lawrence E. Blonsky, in 1995.

He is survived by his wife of 77 years, Dorothy Blonsky; son, Marshall Blonsky, New York City; and grandson, Marcus Blonsky, Kansas City, Mo.

Norman Kaplan, 89, of Overland Park, passed away Monday, May 6, 2013, at ManorCare of Overland Park.

Graveside services were to be held Wednesday, May 8, at Mount Carmel Cemetery. The family suggests contributions to Congregation Beth Shalom, Jewish Community Center or Jewish War Veterans.

Mr. Kaplan was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and moved to Kansas City in the late 1950s, after graduating from New York University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in marketing. Here, he met and married his wife of 53 years, Ruth Apple. Together they raised a family of four children.

He was an executive sales representative in wholesale furniture before his retirement.

Mr. Kaplan was an Army Air Corps Veteran of World War II and was a former member of Congregation Beth Shalom.

He loved horses, was an avid rider and loved to travel. He also enjoyed model railroading and model building.

Mr. Kaplan was a member of ROMEO’s, which he enjoyed, and he volunteered with the Jewish War Veterans.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ike and Eva Kaplan; his brothers, Abe, Bernie and Alexander Kaplan; and his sisters, Fannie Makransky and Dorothy Kusinitz.

Mr. Kaplan is survived by his wife, Ruth Kaplan, of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Janet Bloom, Overland Park and Jerold and Robin Kaplan, Orlando, Fla.; daughters, Lezlie Ellard, Boise, Idaho, and Rhonda Goff, Boston; grandchildren, Elissa and Tim Rondeau, Carly and Joseph Giraldi, Stacy and Dirk Foxworthy, Jacqueline Ellard, Barbara and Doug Mead, Erin Bloom, Michael Kaplan and Samantha Kaplan; great-grandchildren, Madeline, CoCo, Alex, Lauren, Lexi and Nathan. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.

The family would like to thank the staffs of ManorCare and Kansas City Hospice for their wonderful care of Norman during the past year.

Leo Shalinsky, 83, of Prairie Village, died May 3, 2013.

Funeral services were held Sunday, May 5, at The Louis Memorial Chapel, with burial at Sheffield Cemetery. The family suggests contributions to Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care, Congregation Beth Shalom or Congregation Ohev Sholom.

Leo was born to Freda and Herman Shalinsky in Kansas City, Kan., the seventh of eight children. He attended Paseo High School and was a graduate of UMKC Pharmacy School, where he received the Alumni Achievement Award in 1998.

After serving two years in the United States Army, he joined his four brothers in the family pharmacy business. Together, they operated Shalinsky Rexall Drug Stores in Wyandotte and Johnson Counties for more than 40 years.

In his retirement, Leo was program chairman for the ROMEOs, a retired men’s club, where he helped plan more than 400 weekly programs. He was a member of Congregations Beth Shalom and Ohev Sholom, was a Hadassah Associate, a member of the Jewish War Veterans and a supporter of many Jewish and civic organizations.

Leo was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Lester (Ruth), Milton and Marvin; and sister, Eleanor.

He is survived by Arlene, his loving wife of 54 years; sons, Howard (Sarah) of Seattle and Loren (Robyn) of Mountain View, Calif.; daughter, Marla (Gideon Stein) of Jerusalem; and his six grandchildren, Ariana Shalinsky; Yosef, Yael and Adi Stein, Nadav and Zahav Shalinsky.

Also surviving are his brother, Joseph (Charlotte); sisters, Zelda Tasman and Harriet Waldman, both of Louisville, Ky.; sisters-in-law, Anne and Helen Shalinsky; brother-in-law, Gerald Rosenblum; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Jerry Lee Fleschman, 79, of Prairie Village, passed away Monday, April 22, at Menorah Medical Center.

Jerry was born April 1, 1934, in Kansas City, Mo., the son of David and Rose (Mayer) Fleschman. He graduated from Manuel High School in 1952 and was a lifelong area resident.

Jerry was a successful businessman and commercial real estate investor. He was a former member of The Temple, Congregation B’nai Jehudah.

Jerry had a passion for good food and loved cooking for his family and friends. He also loved taking numerous videos and photographs of his travels with Margaret.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Joel Fleschman; and stepdaughter, Tracy Foster.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 18 years, Margaret Fleschman, of the home; his beloved dog “Louie”; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Jeanne Fleschman, Overland Park; daughter and son-in-law, Mindy and Rick Weiser, Overland Park; brother and sister-in-law, Marvin and Elva Fleschman, San Diego; granddaughters, Chelsea and Brooke Weiser, and Aryssa and Alexa Fleschman.

Louis Robert Malashock, 54, of Overland Park, passed away Sunday, April 28, 2013, at Kansas City Hospice House.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 30, at The Louis Memorial Chapel, with burial at Mount Carmel Cemetery. The family suggests contributions to Kansas City Hospice House c/o Louis Malashock Memorial Fund, 12000 Wornall Road, Kansas City, MO 64145 — Attn: Mary Zahner Bauer.

Louis was born Sept. 15, 1958, in Kansas City, Mo., the son of Irving B. and Shirley (Kopitnik) Malashock and was a lifelong area resident.

He was CEO and president of Sol’s Glass, a family business started in 1929 by his grandfather, and where Louis began his approximately 40-year career, starting as a teenager, working until his passing.

Louis played a prominent role in the Kansas City glass industry for many decades. He served on many boards, including the Builders Association Labor Relations Board, and was the last president of the MoKan Glaziers Association.

One of his proudest accomplishments was maintaining the success and integrity of the Glaziers Youth Apprenticeship Program.

Louis was beloved as a father, son, brother, uncle and had many lifelong friends throughout the country.

He was preceded in death by his father, Irving B. Malashock, on Jan. 4, 2007.

Louis is survived by his children, Hannah Rose Malashock and Kenneth Rafi Malashock, both of Overland Park; mother, Shirley Malashock, Leawood; brother and sister-in-law, Jeffrey S. and Yaffa Malashock, Livingston, N.J.; mother of his children, Gina Malashock, Overland Park; and nieces, nephews and cousins, along with many friends also survive.

Louis enjoyed travel, biking and spending time with his family.
