Born in Jacksonville, Fla., she moved to Kansas City in 1962 where she lived with her beloved husband Morris Statland for 42 years. She was known for her kindness, generosity and free spirit. We remember fondly her stories of “flying” off her roof as a child, sinking a car in the Atlantic Ocean, and how our father picked her a “forbidden” Magnolia bloom. We also remember that she helped people in need, making possible a college education, the down payment on a house and providing counseling in their time of need. She was a docent at the Nelson Art Gallery for more than 40 years, and worked as both a school teacher and realtor. She was a member of Congregation Beth Shalom in Kansas City and B’nai B’rith. She was preceded in death by her husband; her brother, Aaron Leonard; and beloved Aunt Sylvia. She will be missed greatly by her children, Larry Statland and his wife Catherine (Bealle) Statland, Jeffrey Statland, and Barbara Statland; her sister, Ruth and her husband Paul Zimmerman; her grandchildren, Max, Eli and Danny; her many nieces and nephews, Marcia and David, Susan and Norman, Lynda and Howard, Elaine and Jim, and Bill and Diana, and all of their children and grandchildren; and her caregiver of many years, Elizabeth. Donations will be accepted in her name at the Alzheimer’s Association of America. Online condolences may be shared at www.louismemorialchapel.com. Arr: The Louis Memorial Chapel, 816-361-5211. |
