Shelby Ernstein, 82, Overland Park, passed away on Friday, March 23, 2012, at Menorah Medical Center. Funeral services were held Sunday, March 25, at the Louis Memorial Chapel, followed by burial at Mount Carmel Cemetery. The family suggests contributions to Congregation Beth Israel Abraham and Voliner or the Matmidim Program at the Hyman Brand Hebrew Academy. Shelby was born and raised in the Kansas City Jewish community, was a member of the Del Rays fraternity and graduated from Central High School. He enlisted in the Marines and served stateside. He attended the University of Missouri-Columbia, was a member of Phi Sigma Delta and during a summer break met his loving wife of 60 years, Shirlee, who he married in 1951. Their three children were born in Kansas City, and beginning in 1964, the family moved to various cities as Shelby pursued his sales management career, returning in 1977 as an executive with ERA so he and Shirlee could be with their families. He enjoyed traveling and above all spending time with his family. He was a member of Congregation BIAV and Congregation Ohev Sholom. Shelby is survived by his wife, Shirlee, of the home; daughters, Barbra McKee, Lenexa, and Leah Ernstein, Overland Park; son and daughter-in-law, Andy and Cara Ernstein, Overland Park; sister and brother-in-law, Iris and Alvin King, San Rafael, Calif.; grandchildren, Jordan and Gloria Soliz, Adam McKee, Ari Wolf, Jesse Ernstein and Charli Ernstein; and great-grandchildren, Aliyah, Elijah and Tovah Soliz.
