There are lots of good jokes about the Yiddish concept of chutzpah, but the chutzpah displayed by the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas these days is no joke. According to recent news reports, it has been helping British lawyers in their attempts to bring war-crimes prosecutions against Israeli officials in London. Think about that for a second: members or supporters of the Islamist terrorist organization in Gaza have been consulted about the potential prosecution in the West of officials from a democratically elected government that has simply responded to ongoing terrorist attacks after extreme provocation. No wonder it has caused a diplomatic fuss between Israel and Britain. It’s Alice-in-Wonderland stuff, and it highlights the woeful inadequacy of the current regime of international law when it comes to dealing with non-state terrorist groups, which foment most of the political violence and social unrest in the world today.
