Nathan Gilbert, 93, of Overland Park, passed away Saturday, Nov. 21, at Menorah Medical Center.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 24, at The Louis Memorial Chapel, with burial at Sheffield Cemetery. The family suggests contributions to The Jewish Federation of Greater Kansas City or Harvesters, the Community Food Network.

Mr. Gilbert owned United Barrel and Liquor Co., owned and operated Zeff-Gilbert Discount House in Tulsa, Okla., and Safety First Driving School. He spent more than 30 years in commercial real estate, buying and managing properties.

He was a member of Congregation Beth Shalom and its Men’s Club, the Brotherhood at The Temple, Congregation B’nai Jehudah, the Jewish War Veterans, B’nai B’rith and the Shriners, and was a 32nd degree Mason.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Tiby Gilbert; brothers, Meyer Gilbert and Johnny Gilbert; sisters, Rose Handler, Esther Gilbert, Sarah Gilbert and Belle Gilbert.

Mr. Gilbert is survived by his wife of 68 years, Charlotte, of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Howard and Penny Gilbert, Fairway; daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Rabbi Michael Zedek, Chicago, and Joanne and David Rizer, Lenexa; grandchildren, Jordan and Jared Gilbert, Travis Burdette, Zachary Rizer, Josh Rizer, Susan Freudenberg and her husband, Joe, and Betsy Zedek; and great-grandchildren, Sam and Julia Freudenberg.
