“The DJ is pretty awesome,” Nearenberg said of the fellow who calls himself DJ Sheppa of the Nomathmatics crew. “He’s not your standard Bar Mitzvah DJ; he’s the real deal. He keeps winning the Pitch music awards.” Sheppa will start to spin after comedian Joel Chasnoff does his shtick. Chasnoff, a veteran of the Israel Defense Forces, now lives in New York. He does his comedy for lots of young Jewish groups. Party planner Debbie Goodbinder said she helped bring Chasnoff into town for a Hadassah event in 2002 and that he was very funny. “I remembered his name, in case I ever did a big event again,” Goodbinder said. “The party is definitely bigger and better than the first year. There’s more entertainment than you can find under one roof; something for everyone.” Nearenberg wants to stress that the party is designed with young Jews in mind. Attendees must be at least 21 because of the open bar, but they may not like the music if they’re over, say, 45, Nearenberg warns. “It’s all-inclusive,” Nearenberg said. “That includes tapas -- small plates of food -- and a full, open bar.” The party flyer also promises “poker for the anti-social.” Spin my dreidel!

Steve Nearenberg is known as “the rock ’n’ roll lawyer” for his specialty of entertainment law. So the Kehilath Israel Synagogue board member invited one of his music-world friends to join comedian Joel Chasnoff on the bill at the second annual “Spin My Dreidel” party Saturday, Dec. 5, at KI.
