Albert Bassin, 85, of Overland Park, passed away Thursday, July 9, at Brighton Gardens.

Funeral services were held Sunday in the chapel at Kehilath Israel Blue Ridge Cemetery, followed by burial. The family suggests contributions to Congregation Kol Ami, 7501 Belinder, Prairie Village, KS 66208.

Mr. Bassin was in the scrap metal business.

He was a member and on the board of directors of Kehilath Israel Synagogue, was chairman of the cemetery committee and was a member of the 100 Club.

Mr. Bassin was born in Kansas City, Mo., moved to Detroit, Mich., as a young child, came back to Kansas City and graduated from Central High School where he was a member of the Rattler’s club, which started in high school and continued into adult life. Upon graduation, he went into World War II. After his military service he returned to Kansas City, lived for a short time in Topeka, then moved to Wichita working for Helzberg’s in both cities. He then returned to Kansas City for good in 1953.

He was a Chiefs Red Coater for more than 30 years, and for more than 30 years was an avid collector of antiques, art glass and pottery.

Mr. Bassin was preceded in death by his parents, Morris and Bertha Bassin; his high school sweetheart and wife of 59 years, Doris Bassin, who died in 2004; and his brother-in-law, Jacques Choikhit.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in law, Lenny and Leah Bassin, Overland Park; daughter and son-in-law, Ronda and Michael Davis, West Des Moines, Iowa; sister, Elaine Choikhit, Overland Park; grandchildren, Erin Marisa Davis, Greg Davis and his wife Becky, Zachary Bassin and his wife Lindsey, and Sarah Bassin; and great-grandchild, Judah Bassin;
