Manfield, Eugene L.

Eugene L. Manfield, 88, of Lenexa, passed away Saturday, July 11, at his home.

Services were held Tuesday, July 14, in the Yukon Chapel at Mount Carmel Cemetery, followed by burial. The family suggests contributions to Jewish War Veterans or the American Heart Association.

Mr. Manfield owned and operated the Auditorium Bar & Grill, also known as “Eugene’s on 14th,” from 1948 until he retired in 1994.
He was born in Kansas City, Mo., was a lifelong area resident and was a former member of Congregation Beth Shalom.

Mr. Manfield was a U.S. Army Veteran, was captured in the Battle of the Bulge, and was a prisoner of war for seven to eight months until the end of the war. He also was a recipient of the Purple Heart.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Morris and Lillian (Bell) Manfield; his brother, Martin Manfield; a sister, Toby Schulman; and a brother-in-law, Morris Riesman.

Mr. Manfield is survived by his wife of 29 years, Eula N. Manfield, of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Karen Manfield, Venice, Calif.; daughter and son-in-law, Deanne and Harvey Gilbert, San Francisco; sister, Dossie Riesman, Overland Park; stepsons and their wives, Robert and Sher Cossey, Lenexa, and Donald and Kathy Cossey, Olathe; sister-in-law, Ruth Manfield, Overland Park; his first wife, Sophie Manfield, Los Angeles; grandchildren, Jill Gilbert, Jason Gilbert and his wife Tova, Tyler Goetz and Alexandra Manfield; great-granddaughter, Naomi Gilbert; step-grandchildren, McKenna Cossey, Samantha Cossey and Jesse Rasmussen and his wife Hayley; and nephews, Bruce Riesman and David Schulman.
