Esfir Kopyt, 78, of Overland Park, passed away Tuesday, June 30, at her home.

Graveside services were to have been held Wednesday, July 1, at Sheffield Cemetery. The family suggests contributions to Chabad House, 6201 Indian Creek Dr., Shawnee Mission, KS 66207-3837.

Mrs. Kopyt was a nurse and worked in a testing laboratory.

She was a former member of Congregation Beth Torah who sponsored her and her husband when they came to the United States in 1989.

Mrs. Kopyt was full of life, loved children and all of her family. She enjoyed cooking for family gatherings and her focus was her family and her close friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Israel Kopyt.

Mrs. Kopyt is survived by her daughter, Sofia Polonskaya, Overland Park; son and daughter-in-law, Yakov Kopit and Emiliya Kechker, Olathe; sister, Evgenia Rapoport, Orenburg, Russia; grandchildren, Slava Polonskaya and Boris Polonsky, both of Overland Park; Anna Kopit and Michael Kopit, both of Olathe; two great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
