Jack Slade, 88, of Overland Park, passed away Thursday, June 11, at ManorCare of Overland Park. Funeral services were held Friday, June 12, at Congregation Kol Ami, with burial at Rose Hill Cemetery. The family suggests contributions to a charity of the donor’s choice. Mr. Slade was a member of The Temple, Congregation B’nai Jehudah, past president of B’nai B’rith and a member Meadowbrook Country Club, where he was an avid golfer. Mr. Slade owned and operated Fimco Corporation, a wholesale plumbing and steel supply company. He retired in 1991 after 44 years in business. After retirement, Jack worked part time for Peter’s Clothiers. He served with the U.S. Army in World War II. Mr. Slade was well known as “Little Al Jolson” when he was a child, competing and winning contests in movie theaters and acting in vaudeville in Kansas City. His child acting career ended at age 13 with the death of his mother. He continued to love to entertain, dance and sing and had a great sense of humor. Mr. Slade was preceded in death by his parents, Abe and Lilly Slabotsky; his wife of 58 years, Ruth Slade; and sister, Gertrude Edwards. He is survived by his daughters, Sandy Schwartz and Debby Zack, both of Prairie Village; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ernie and Ali Slabotsky, Los Angeles, and Gordon and Sally Slabotsky, Kansas City, Kan.; sister and brother-in-law, Hannah and Robert Levine, Los Angeles; grandchildren, Marnie Frederick and her husband Chad, Topeka, Jordan Schwartz, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Adam and Jason Zack, both of Prairie Village; and great-grandson, Jack Robert Frederick, Topeka.
