We experience a certain extra dismay when a black person exhibits anti-Semitic feelings. We wish black folks would recall our history of struggling together for civil rights and recognize that we have many of the same enemies, so we ought to stick together, or at least not attack each other. And yet this past week, anti-Semitic utterances by black leaders roiled both the local and national political scenes. One such remark was contained within a longer e-mail Kansas City Call reporter Eric Wesson distributed June 11 to leaders in the black community. (See related story.) The offensive bit concerned the Cordish Co., which operates the P&L District, to wit: “Lastly Cordish like all jews (sic) they look at money not black or white.” At least Wesson shows a willingness to listen and learn. Jeremiah Wright, in contrast, just gets uglier. The Chicago pastor first mused in print about how “them Jews” are keeping him away from President Barack Obama. A couple of days later, he amended that to say he meant to say “Zionists” instead. Gee, thanks a lot, Rev.
